Hilltop Montessori School teachers understand and promote the school’s mission, vision, objectives, and policies both within and outside the immediate school community. Teachers are responsible for providing a Montessori classroom/instructional program that supports the development of the cognitive, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual growth of the child in accordance with the school’s mission and vision and the child’s developmental stage. They should meet each child’s individual needs with warmth, guidance and humor and model with their team members the same attributes. We also ask that teachers have experience with equity, anti-bias, and teaching in an equitable and culturally affirming way and have experience working with children having a wide range of social, emotional, and behavioral experiences.

Detailed information about each position is provided below. 

Upper Elementary Teacher/Assistant

Hilltop Montessori School seeks a teacher who can become part of the collaborative Upper Elementary teaching team (for up to 26 UE students) supported by an art teacher, learning specialist team, music teacher, and fitness teacher, in addition to a collective of multi-generational staff throughout the school. This position is for the 2024-25 school year and beyond!

 This position will prioritize an individual who:

  • Holds values that are aligned with the Montessori framework and principles.
  • Is already familiar with equity, anti-bias, and teaching an equitable and culturally affirming pedagogy in the classroom and school system.
  • Has experience working with children having a wide range of social, emotional, and behavioral experiences.
  • Is a change maker, innovator, excited about working outside the box and bringing their gifts to a community of curious learners.
  • Is transparent and comfortable in communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Maintains an environment that engages all types of learners and meets students where they are.

Upper Elementary Montessori credential is preferred but not required. 

Compensation is commensurate with experience with a base salary for a Montessori credentialed lead teacher starting at $44,000 and additional compensation for additional degrees, years of experience, and longevity with the school, bringing most teachers into the $50Ks. The base salary for an assistant is around $30,000, with the same additional compensation opportunities bringing many assistant salaries into the mid-$30Ks.

There is also a generous benefits package including: health insurance, matching retirement funds, professional development, short term disability (including maternity leave), tuition remission, etc. We also sponsor assistant teachers for obtaining their Montessori certification!

Children's House Teacher/Assistant

Hilltop Montessori School seeks a teacher who can become part of the collaborative Children’s House teaching team (in one of two classrooms of 20 students each), supported by a Spanish/Physical Education/Leadership teacher, a Child Study Team, a music teacher, and strong admin team, in addition to a collective of multi-generational staff throughout the school. This position is for the 2024-25 school year and beyond!

 This position will prioritize an individual who:

  • Holds values that are aligned with the Montessori framework and principles.
  • Is already familiar with equity, anti-bias, and teaching an equitable and culturally affirming pedagogy in the classroom and school system.
  • Has experience working with children having a wide range of social, emotional, and behavioral experiences.
  • Is a change maker, innovator, excited about working outside the box and bringing their gifts to a community of curious learners.
  • Is transparent and comfortable in communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Maintains an environment that engages all types of learners and meets students where they are.

A Primary Montessori credential is preferred but not required.

Extended Day Director

The Extended Day Director is responsible for coordinating the activities of the Extended Day staff and children and ensuring consistency in the transition from the regular school day to Extended Day. Currently, there are typically three separate groups for Extended Day, divided by age: Toddler, Children’s House, and Elementary. The Extended Day Director will oversee all groups, and may regularly provide the care for one of the groups of children. The specific responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, organizing, and implementing afternoon activities for children who are awake/not part of the napping group
  • Working with the Children’s House assistant teachers on said activities
  • Ensuring safe, appropriate, and compliant staff/student ratios for each group of Extended Day
  • Checking the expected numbers for each age group by noon each day and finalizing staffing plans, if groups can combine, etc.
  • Coordinating the use and set-up of spaces to be used by the Extended Day groups, and making adjustments for other groups needing space
  • Coordinating the regular schedule for Extended Day activities (gathering, snack, free time inside/outside) and any changes needed to the schedule
  • Facilitating parent communication
  • Assist in the planning of the After School Enrichment Programs, including, at a minimum, the location and timing of pick-up and return from/to Extended Day
  • Guiding the Extended Day staff in the ongoing strengthening of the activities provided to the children after school
  • Working with the EEPP Director on Monthly Early Ed program meeting agenda, in regards to Extended Day
  • Coordinate with the Front Desk and EEPP Director and lead organization/planning of childcare for school events, including parent ed, Curriculum Morning, etc
  • Report any changes or concerns to the Head of School

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year experience in a preschool environment, preferably Montessori
  • The completion of Fundamentals (or equivalent) within the first year of employment
  • CPR/First Aid
  • A clear record through fingerprinting
  • The physical capacity to work with young children (includes but is not limited to: bending, minor lifting, working on the floor)

Early Ed Substitute Teacher

Hilltop is always looking for help with our youngest students! Substitutes may be asked to help cover for planned teacher absences, or last minute coverage. Reach out if you are interested in learning more!

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year experience in a preschool environment, preferably Montessori
  • CPR/First Aid
  • A clear record through fingerprinting
  • The physical capacity to work with pre-school/toddler aged children (includes but is not limited to: bending, minor lifting, working on the floor)
