Family Participation

Parent involvement is the key to Hilltop’s success! Parents play a vital role in the daily life of Hilltop Montessori School. Many parents are involved on a daily basis and enjoy the interaction with each other and the opportunity to participate in the school life. Parent involvement is both welcome and necessary for Hilltop to succeed on every level: educationally, financially, and, most importantly, as a model community for our children.

Parent involvement is key to the success and growth of our school in every way. From driving and chaperoning field trips to volunteering for fundraisers like the spring Hilltop Benefit Auction, parents are welcome, and expected, to participate in various school events and activities.

Beginning in the 2012/ 2013 school year each program will be assigned one school-wide event to work on. This system is intended to ensure that all families contribute to school functions and events, and help families gain a clearer understanding of volunteer opportunities and expectations.

Hilltop Parent Association / HPA
Hilltop Parent Association serves several vital roles in connecting parents to Hilltop. All parents are members of the Hilltop Parent Association participating in the activities of the school. Within this organization there are subgroups responsible for particular activities.

Coordinating HPA activities in the classroom or in the community requires working with the Head of School, administration and classroom Parent Coordinators.

Each program requires two or three devoted classroom parents in order to run on all cylinders. In creating and coordinating community and classroom activities, classroom parent coordinators meet with teachers, administration or specific event committees on a regular basis to assess needs, make phone calls or coordinate volunteers and offer ideas as to how parents might help.

These parents plan and coordinate community events. Hosting events, setting up or preparing food are some of the roles needed to support the series of community events or parent education workshops that are offered throughout the school year.
Parents are needed throughout the year to plan and coordinate the activities of yearly Hilltop fundraising events, such as the Hilltop’s Annual Appeal, Friends of Hilltop Benefit Auction committees to name a few. These events involve a range of activities from phone-a-thons to soliciting auction items. These committees are invaluable and fun.

Classroom and Program Support
Whether it be carpooling for field trips, cooking, material making, or giving a presentation, teachers and students value the support parents can contribute to the classrooms.

  • Chaperones For Sports Winter sports programs in January and February

  • Building and Grounds

“Respect all the reasonable forms of activity in which the child engages and try to understand them.”
